The 177 Health Program sponsored a farewell and thank you luncheon at the Outrigger Enra restaurant on Tuesday to celebrate the retirement of Mejatto’s long time health assistant, Pearson John.

John, who has been the health assistant in Mejatto for the past 30 years, was always well liked by the community and leadership of Mejatto.  Honoring him with speeches at the luncheon on Tuesday were colleagues of John from Majuro’s 177 office and Rongelap Senator Abacca Anjain-Maddison. Also in town for the farewell luncheon was Darryl Cunningham.

Cunningham is the program manager for Trinity Health International, which holds the management contract for the 177 Health Program.

According to John’s colleagues, the Mejatto clinic was always well run under John, and while he will be missed by his colleagues, he will always be remembered for his dedication to his the community and especially for his active involvement and leadership in the Youth to Youth in Health (YTYIH) chapter in Mejatto.

His involvement with YTYIH made the Mejatto chapter one the most active outer islands YTYIH chapters throughout the 1990’s.

Replacing John at the Mejatto clinic now are health assistant Elbon Eknilang and Dr. Bikash Gupta.
