A proposal to change the name of the March 1 national
holiday from Memorial Day and Nuclear Survivors Remembrance
Day, to Memorial Day and Nuclear Victims Remembrance Day
Commemorations, resulted in a compromise. The holiday honors
those who have suffered as a result of US nuclear testing.
The Nitijela approved the day’s new name: Memorial Day
and Nuclear Victims/Survivors Remembrance Day
